Free and Confidential prenatal and postnatal services for expecting and new new parents/caregivers with infants under one year of age.

What is Good Start?


Good Start and Healthy Choices  is a project funded by thee Canadian Prenatal Nutrition Program and sponsored by the High Prairie and District Children's resource Council. The program provides information, support and resources for expecting parents. The service is available throughout pregnancy, birth and until infant is 12 months of age. 

Healthy Weights and Development

Milk coupons: As you participate in group prenatal sessions and/or personal home/office consultations, you will receive milk coupons. 

Vitamins: Throughout your pregnancy the Good Start program will supply you with prenatal vitamins as well as breastfed infants will receive vitamin drops until one year of age. 

Good Food Box: A monthly food hamper of nutritious food, sample recipes, an nutritional information. 

Workshops: Making Healthy Choices, Breastfeeding 101, sugar facts, baby's first foods, signs,gestational diabetes, and more. 

Ages & Stages Questionnaire: Learn about how children grow and develop and how to enhance your own child's developmental potential through play and learn.

Good Start / Healthy Families Offers: 

  • In-home visitation services providing privacy and personalized programming.

  • Prenatal instructions and preparation offered in weekly groups (Off to a Good Start) and all-in-one sessions in all service areas. 

  • Postnatal education and support services offered in weekly and bi-weekly groups (Baby & Me) in High Prairie, East Prairie, Peavine and Grouard. 

  • Labor and delivery education and planning. 

  • Nutrition, maternal health, breastfeeding support and infant development information and resources. 

  • Community supports, baby welcome bags and referrals to health professionals. 

  • Nutritional Supports: monthly good food box, prenatal and infant D vitamins and milk vouchers. 

  • Mental health and post partum prevention and support services. 

  • Healthy parent-child attachment services and support in building healthy relationships. 

  • Infant care and safety information. 

  • Parenting education services and family life skills development resources. 

  • Cultural resources and supports for new Canadians and indigenous families.
